How Social Media has Affected Your Art | Arts In Context Shorts

– How has social
media affected my art? There are pros and cons to it. – Honestly man. – Social media is an
interesting thing. (light music) I kinda have a love-hate
relationship with it. I sometimes enjoy it because
it’s sort of an art form in itself, but then I feel
like it’s just one extra thing to keep up with. – You really have to balance
being on social media and using it as a tool
and not letting it be a deterrent and
take away from the art. – To me social media is great, but at the same time
you have to be aware that people have opinions. A lot of people are gonna
have opinions of your art. They’re gonna be positive and
they’re gonna be negative. – It’s given me a
platform and a way that I can reach people
outside of Texas, outside of America. I think getting caught
up in the likes, getting caught up in the how
many followers do I have, can sometimes be a
hindrance to my flow. – I think a lot of
artists feel this pressure to “Oh I haven’t posted in
four or five days or a week, “I have to post.” And I feel like
sometimes that’s good, but I also feel like
when you’re in the studio and you have this pressure
to show the outside world what you’re doing,
it also takes away from what you’re creating. – The pros are it
allows me to connect with my community one-to-one. Cons are when people take photos and they don’t run
’em by me first so I look crazy in the photo. They coulda put
a filter on that. (light music)
